ClipQ (“the app”) is an Android video editor made by Saral Labs,
published as com.dip.clipq. This policy explains what the app does with your data.
The short version
Your photos, videos, music and voice recordings never leave your phone. ClipQ has no account, no
server, no ads, no analytics and no internet permission of its own.
What ClipQ reads
- Photos and videos you pick. ClipQ uses the Android photo picker, so it only
sees the items you choose. It never scans your gallery.
- Audio files you pick. Songs you add are read from where they are. ClipQ does
not copy them unless you ask it to extract audio from a video.
- Your microphone, only while you record a voiceover. Recording starts when you
press record and stops when you press stop. The recording is saved in ClipQ’s private
storage and becomes part of your project. It is never uploaded.
- Your camera and microphone, only while the teleprompter is open. The camera
shows a preview so you can frame yourself, and records only between your taps on record and
stop. Each take is saved in ClipQ’s private storage. It is never uploaded, and nothing
the camera sees is analysed.
- The teleprompter script you type. It is kept in ClipQ’s settings on
your phone so it is still there next time.
.cube colour files and .clipq draft files you open.
What ClipQ stores, and where
Everything is stored in ClipQ’s private app storage on your phone:
- Your projects (drafts): the list of clips, trims, text and settings. These hold links to your
media, not copies of it.
- Voiceovers you record, teleprompter takes, audio you extract from videos, and sound effects
you add. Takes you discard are deleted straight away.
- Reversed copies of clips you reverse, and colour files you import.
- Your settings, such as theme and export quality.
Finished videos are saved to your gallery in the Movies/ClipQ album. They are
yours to keep, share or delete like any other video.
You can see and clear everything ClipQ stores from the Storage tab. Uninstalling
ClipQ removes all of it except the videos you saved to your gallery.
What ClipQ sends over the internet
Nothing about you or your media. All editing, beat detection, filters, voice
effects and exporting happen on your phone.
The only network use comes from Google Play services: Google Play checks whether a newer version
of ClipQ is available, and may show Play’s rating sheet. Google handles this under
Google’s privacy policy.
Backups
ClipQ opts out of Android cloud backup for its projects and files, because drafts point to media
that may not exist on another phone. To move a project to another phone, use Save draft
file to create a .clipq file, which you control.
Permissions
- Microphone records voiceovers and the sound of teleprompter takes, only while
you are recording. ClipQ asks the first time you tap record or open the teleprompter, and
every other feature works without it.
- Camera is used only by the teleprompter, to preview and record you. ClipQ
asks the first time you open the teleprompter, and every other feature works without it.
- Notifications show export progress so you can leave the app while a video
saves.
- Foreground service keeps an export running when the screen is off.
- Vibrate gives a small tick when a trim snaps. You can switch it off in
Settings.
- Storage (Android 9 and older only) is needed to save finished videos to the
gallery on those versions.
Children
ClipQ is not directed at children under 13 and collects no personal information from anyone.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be published at this address, with a new date
above.
