Privacy Policy

Khayal (“the app”) is a free Android medicine reminder and care tracker, published as com.dip.khayal by Saral Labs Indian Apps (developer: Diptendu Das). This policy explains what stays on your phone, what advertising software may collect, and how to contact us.

Khayal is not a medical device. It does not diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any condition, and it never suggests or adjusts a dose. It records what you enter and reminds you of it.

The short version

Everything you type into Khayal stays on your phone. There is no account, no sign-up, no server of ours, and nothing you enter is uploaded anywhere.

The one exception is advertising: Khayal shows ads from Google AdMob, which needs a connection and collects the things described below. That service is operated by Google, not by us. Ads in Khayal are always non-personalised. We do not sell your information.

What Khayal stores on your device

• Names, ages and notes for the people you look after
• Medicines: names, strengths, forms, times, food relation, course dates, refill counts
• Doses recorded as given or skipped, with the time you tapped
• Vital readings you enter: blood pressure, blood sugar, weight, temperature, SpO₂
• Appointments and the “bring these reports” note
• Photographs of pill strips you choose to attach

This is stored in Khayal’s private app storage, where other apps cannot read it. It is excluded from Android’s cloud backup, so it is not copied to Google Drive. Uninstalling Khayal deletes all of it, which is why the app asks you to acknowledge that on first launch.

What Khayal does not do

• No account, no login, no cloud sync
• No health data is transmitted anywhere, ever
• Prescription photographs are read by an on-device text recogniser and deleted immediately after reading. The image is never uploaded
• Nothing you enter is sent to Google, to us, or to any advertiser

Advertising

Khayal is free and ads pay for it. Ads are served by Google AdMob.

• Because Khayal is a health-related app, every ad request is marked non-personalised, regardless of what you consent to. Ads are not targeted using anything about your health.
• Ads never appear on the Today screen, in a notification, or on the doctor chart.
• AdMob still receives, as it does in any app with ads: your device’s advertising ID, approximate location derived from your IP address, and device and app information such as model, OS version and the app’s package name.
• Google’s own handling of this is described in the Google Privacy Policy and in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.
• You can reset or delete your advertising ID in Android Settings → Privacy → Ads. In the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland, Khayal shows Google’s consent form on first launch, and you can reopen it any time from Settings → Ad privacy choices.
• Your medicines and readings are never sent to Google or used to target ads. The ad request carries no health data from this app.

Debug builds of the app use Google’s sample ad units and never request live ads.

Analytics

The app contains no analytics software of our own. We do not measure which screens you open.

Permissions

Permission	Why
INTERNET, ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE	Only to fetch the ads described above. No health data travels over it.
POST_NOTIFICATIONS	Showing dose, refill and appointment reminders.
SCHEDULE_EXACT_ALARM	So a reminder arrives at the minute the dose is due, rather than whenever the system next feels like it.
USE_FULL_SCREEN_INTENT	The full-screen alert for medicines you mark as loud.
RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED	Re-arming reminders after the phone restarts.
VIBRATE	Alert vibration.
USE_BIOMETRIC, USE_FINGERPRINT	The optional app lock. Nothing biometric is stored or transmitted. The second is the older name for the same thing, added by Android’s biometric library for compatibility with earlier versions.
AD_ID	So AdMob can use the advertising identifier where you have allowed it.
ACCESS_ADSERVICES_AD_ID, ACCESS_ADSERVICES_ATTRIBUTION, ACCESS_ADSERVICES_TOPICS	Added by the Google Mobile Ads library for Android’s Privacy Sandbox. Used by Google’s ad serving, not by any code of ours.
WAKE_LOCK, FOREGROUND_SERVICE	Added by Android’s WorkManager library, which Khayal uses to rebuild the reminder schedule in the background. Khayal declares no foreground service of its own.

Khayal does not request the camera permission. When you photograph a pill strip or a prescription, your own camera app takes the picture and hands the file back. The app does not ask for contacts, SMS or location.

Sharing

Nothing leaves your phone unless you send it:

• Doctor chart PDF — you choose the app and the recipient each time.
• Caregiver handoff file — a file you export and send to whoever you choose.

Once you have sent either of those, what happens to it is governed by the app you sent it with.

Children

Khayal is for adults managing care. It is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect anything from them.

Deleting your data

Delete a person in Settings → People to remove their record, or uninstall Khayal to remove everything. There is nothing held elsewhere for you to ask us to delete. Step-by-step instructions are here.

Changes to this policy

This policy is published here. If it changes, this page is updated and the date above changes with it, and the new version goes live before the release that relies on it.
