Tessera (“the app”) is a set of home-screen widgets and wallpapers made
by Saral Labs, published as com.dip.tessera. This page explains what the app does with
information on your phone.
To show the weather, Tessera asks Open-Meteo for the forecast at a place. The place is either a city you search for, or your approximate location if you allow it. When you search, the name you type is sent to Open-Meteo to find matching places. Tessera rounds the location to about one kilometre before sending it and never sends your name, an account or any identifier. Open-Meteo receives the request together with your internet address, as any website does. Tessera stores the last forecast on your phone so the widget can show it without asking again. While a weather widget is on your home screen, the forecast is refreshed about once an hour; removing the last one stops that. If you never add the weather widget or choose a place, no request is made.
If you allow notification access, Tessera reads which song is playing so the music widget can show it and offer play, pause and skip. Tessera reads only the media controls of music apps, ignores all other notifications, and stores nothing about what you listen to.
The quick toggle widget can switch the flashlight, switch Do not disturb if you allow it, and open the system Wi-Fi panel. It does not read or change anything else.
Wallpapers are generated on your phone. When you share an export card, the image goes only to the app you choose to share it with.
Google Play checks whether a newer version of Tessera is available, and may show its rating sheet. Google handles this under Google’s privacy policy.
Your settings, moods and focus streak can be included in your phone’s own backup, which Google encrypts. Tessera has no server and keeps no copy.
Tessera is not directed at children and collects no personal data from anyone.
